Are you ready?
Checklist: I can
manage this process and work with you through each
step of the way or simply provide some resources and tips as needed;
it's up to you.
- Domain Name and Hosting Company:
Choosing the right domain name company and hosting company
is important. Some core items to look for in a hosting company are
minimal downtown, disk and transfer space. Beware of hidden fees as well. For
example, fees to add another domain to your hosting plan, cancellation fees if you
terminate your account early, and fees to transfer your domain to another hosting company.
- Navigation bar
The table of contents are the headings for each of the sections in your site. Your
table of contents works as a framework for the rest of your site. It can help to
think, "What do I want the customer to do when they get to my site." Make a few
sequences of clicks that you think will occur most often and make sure you have the
appropriate information addressed on your site.
- Photos and Graphics
Quality digital images add life to a website. A photo that is clear and with correct
positioning can "say a thousand words." If you do not have photos, the inventory
on www.istock.com is vast and very inexpensive. I provide
limited graphic enhancement and graphic design work. I have several graphic design colleagues who can provide anything
from full graphic design services including branding and logo design to assistance
with a graphical template to complement your current brand. I am able to incorporate
and utilize graphic design from your current designer as well.
- List of websites you enjoy the style and layout
Make a list of websites you enjoy. Make a few notes about what components of each
site you like and would like to emulate or model on your own site. This will help
paint a better picture of the type of website you are looking for.
